An upcoming Security Council resolution on Gaza does not stop the war

Sarahah News – Jordan

After a week of negotiations and repeated postponements, the UN Security Council will vote, on Friday, on a draft resolution regarding the delivery of aid to the Gaza Strip, which is expected to “create conditions for a permanent cessation of hostilities” instead of stopping the war on Gaza for fear of an American veto, as happened previously, as the United States opposes The United States of America, the main supporter of Israel in its war on Gaza, must stop this war, which has so far claimed the lives of more than 20,000 citizens, most of whom are children and women.

The anticipated decision came after intense negotiations throughout the week behind closed doors in the 15-member Security Council. The ambassadors continued their consultations on the latest version of a draft resolution drafted by the United Arab Emirates, the Arab member of the Security Council.

The American delegate to the United Nations, Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield, announced, after a closed consultation session of the Council late last night, that her country is ready to vote on the resolution, if the concessions reached in the last draft remain, that is, “if the final text remains as it is.”

The draft resolution calls for urgent steps to be taken to allow the safe and unhindered delivery of aid to afflicted civilians in the Gaza Strip, but the final point of contention was who would inspect the aid.

The talks were usually held between the United States of America, which threatens to use its veto power, and the Arab countries represented by the Emirates, as well as Egypt, in its capacity as president of the Arab group for this month and in its control of the Rafah border crossing into Gaza.

While the Arab countries, supported by the majority of members, demand that the United Nations undertake inspections instead of Tel Aviv to facilitate the process of delivering aid to the Strip, the United States stresses the need for Tel Aviv to remain involved in the inspections.
